There is something that I really HATE – when my room is cluttered. Honestly, there’s no one to blame but myself. I’m the one who leaves it messy. There are just times when I’m in a huge rush and keeping my room clean is the last thing on my mind.
All of a sudden, clothes are hung on a chair or sometimes thrown on the floor. However, what annoys me the most is when my makeup drawer becomes a total mess. If I’m late for work and trying to quickly do my makeup, it takes forever to find the tool or product I’m looking for. When my mom saw my make-up drawer, she was shocked. Her face hilarious. “How do you live like that” – that was her reaction.
This is why I decided to search for some organization tips and tricks and came across this great idea. It’s relatively cheap, simple, and quick.
This DIY is one of my new favorites. The good news is that you can easily do this project! If I can do it, you definitely manage. Just grab some clear, acrylic, slant-back photo frames at Dollar Tree. It’s amazing how a few affordable picture frames can transform your makeup clutter into a tidy inventory of products, complete with designated spaces for everything! You can also use sign holders for this hack, but they’ve got to stand up at a slant. I found this wonderful DIY makeup organization tip on Hometalk, and I highly suggest you give it a try. Here’s what to do:
What You’ll Need:
- Clear, acrylic, slant-back photo frames or sign holders to fit the drawer; I used four 8 x 8″ frames
- Tape measure or ruler
How to Make Your Own Makeup Organizer:
Clear Out Your Makeup Drawer: Of course, the first step is to empty out your makeup drawer. Come on, this part is the easiest, don’t you agree? Remove all of the items and clean the drawer well. This also gives you the chance to throw out any expired products (now is the time) and allows you to see exactly how much space you actually have.
Measure the Drawer: Using a measuring tape or ruler, measure the internal part of the drawer. This will enable you to make the right choices about the correct size of frames to use.
Prep the Frames: Once you know your measurements, you can start prepping the frames. For my drawer, I got four 8 x 8″ clear, acrylic, slant-back photo frames from Dollar Tree. You may need more or fewer frames based on the dimensions of your drawer.
Arrange the Frames: This is where the magic happens. Place the frames horizontally in the drawer, arranging them so they provide little shelves for your makeup products. Set them in a way that will show the makeup as if it’s half facing downwards, with the bottom of the frame on top. This way, your makeup bottles and packages will be slanted but almost standing on the “ledge” of the bottom frame.
Arrange Your Makeup: Now, arrange your makeup on the acrylic frames. This will help you locate exactly what you’re looking for without having to dig through a pile of makeup.
Why This Hack Works:
The slant-back photo frames function like little ledges in your drawer. You’ll be able to see exactly what you’re looking for without digging through your products. These frames can also be easily disassembled and cleaned, which is a big plus.
This DIY makeup organizer is functional and cheap to throw together. The acrylic frames can be found at Dollar Tree for a buck each. So, the total cost of this project ends up being less than $10. That’s a pretty small cost for a fully organized makeup drawer.
More Tips to Help You Keep Your Makeup Organized:
Declutter Regularly: When it comes to makeup, one of the most important rules is to declutter your stash from time to time. On a regular basis, get rid of any makeup you haven’t used in the last three months or any product that has expired.
Use Small Containers for Small Items: For small products such as lipsticks, eyeliners, and mascaras, store them using small containers or dividers. This will keep everything from rolling around in the drawer and getting mixed up.
Label Everything: As an extra organizational step, you can label the individual compartments within your drawer. This way, you’ll always be able to quickly and easily locate anything that you need.
Keep Daily Essentials Accessible: Store your most-used makeup products in the compartment of the drawer that’s easiest to access. This will help keep your daily makeup routine on track; no more rushed mornings getting ready for work!
Clean Your Makeup Brushes Regularly: You don’t want to ruin an otherwise clean and organized makeup drawer with a bunch of dirty makeup brushes. Clean your makeup brushes regularly to keep them and your skin free from bacteria.
I’m a bit of a DIY queen, but this is definitely my favorite project I’ve discovered lately. It’s also a cheap, easy and effective project. So my makeup drawer was a total wreck a few days ago. But now I have a makeup drawer that is clean, organized. My mom approves, haha! If you want an easier morning routine, I hope you’ll give it a try!
