I can confidently cook salmon, halibut, and tilapia, but I’ve always been intimidated by cooking fussier-seeming seafood such as crab, lobster, and scallops. When it comes to the latter, the scallops I eat in restaurants are always so flavorful and delicious, I don’t even bother trying to recreate the taste myself. Fortunately, making a delicious scallops recipe is far easier than it seems.

Anna Monette Roberts of PopSugar Food came up with an excellent recipe for seared scallops that is surprisingly beginner-friendly. You’ll wind up with scallops that have a seared, slightly caramelized exterior, but a soft, tender interior. The scallops themselves are pretty mild, which balances perfectly with the rich butter and white wine sauce that goes along with them.

Aside from the scallops themselves, the rest of the ingredients are all essentially pantry staples: butter, onions, white wine, and a few different spices. You can pretty well have this entire recipe prepped and ready to serve in as little as 15 to 20 minutes. Serve with a simple green salad, and you’ve got yourself a five-star restaurant-quality dinner.
