How To Remove Mold From The Washing Machine

When you think of your washing machine, you think of something used to clean your clothing and linens. And while washing machines are, in fact, used for this, they can also get extremely filthy over time. Because washing machines are constantly warm and moist, they make for the perfect breeding grounds for mold and other bacteria. And these definitely are not things you want to be coming into contact with.
When exposed to mold for a prolonged period of time, you’re susceptible to respiratory problems, skin irritation, and allergies. Thankfully, eliminating mold from your washing machine and ensuring it stays away is pretty simple. First off, you need to get familiar with the gasket, the rubber seal situated at the opening of your washing machine to prevent water leaks.
Grab the edge of the gasket with your hands to reach underneath it. Use a solution of hot water and liquid dish soap to clean the seal before wiping it dry. You should clean the gasket using this method every week or so in order to prevent mold from growing. If you notice that there seems to be a great deal of mold underneath the gasket, use a cloth and bleach to clean the seal before running your washing machine on an empty hot water cycle.
In order to keep the drum of the washing machine free of mold and bacteria, pour a cup of distilled vinegar into the machine and run it on an empty hot water cycle. The vinegar will naturally clean, disinfect, and deodorize your machine. You should practice this method at least once a month to ensure your clothing, linens, and family are safe from harmful bacteria.
