One of the hardest parts about being a new parent is trying to establish some sort of sleeping routine for your little one. When you’re exhausted from a lack of sleep, all you want is a few hours of undisturbed shuteye. But as all parents of babies know, that’s easier said than done! However, one new mom invented a creative, extremely effective way to get her baby to sleep through the night.

New mom Laura Gerson noticed that when her daughter, Amelia, was about three months old, she would wake up and cry during the night when her soother fell out and she couldn’t find it. After witnessing this happen via the baby video monitor a few times, Laura came up with an awesome solution.

When Laura puts Amelia down at night, she surrounds her with about 10 soothers. “99% of the time, she just wanted her dummy [soother] to soothe her back to sleep,” said Laura. “When she had lots in there, she was quite calm, falling asleep with them in her hands, too. She isn’t a total dummy-fiend and doesn’t even have them through the day really, but it really soothes her having them through the night, and having more in there makes it easy for her to find one and hold one (or two),” she continued.

While it might look a little silly, this hack has totally worked for Laura and Amelia. Laura revealed that Amelia turns one soon, and she now sleeps between 12 and 13 hours a night thanks to this extremely simple hack. So, if you’re a new parent struggling with your little one’s nighttime routine, maybe this hack can help them to self-soothe and sleep more peacefully!
