I have no problem admitting that I don’t have an artistic bone in my body. That’s why I’m always so impressed by people who are extremely talented artists. While some artists prefer their medium to be paint or clay, sculptor Chris Miller prefers granite, wood, marble, and other stone. He makes extremely realistic stone sculptures of vintage trucks and cars, and they appear to seamlessly blend into their surroundings.

Chris began carving and sculpting in 1976, and is mostly self-taught. “For reasons I don’t understand, I have always needed to make things. If not carving, it’s building a house, a sturdy stone wall, furniture, or some random structure. It’s just always been important for me to be creating something. And, the more challenging the better,” Chris explains.

And what could be more challenging than creating vintage vehicles from stone? The vintage stone truck was part of a crowd-sourced community sculpture installation. It even boasts a beautiful flower bed in the “bed” of the truck. While Chris isn’t the artist behind the VW beetle built in a field close to Ithaca, New York, it did inspire him to take on projects like the vintage stone truck.

And vintage trucks made of stone aren’t the only topic of Chris’s art. He also does figurative and monument work, just to name a few of his talents.
