How To Make All-Natural Mosquito Repellent Using A Mason Jar

Mosquitoes are my arch nemesis. For some reason, they have been especially attracted to me for my entire life. The people around me seem to be largely unbothered, and I’m off to the side being absolutely swarmed. Insect repellent sprays and citronella candles work to an extent, but I don’t like applying such harsh chemicals to my skin and breathing them in through the air.

Fortunately, there are all-natural, safe alternatives that we can use to ward off mosquitoes instead. Claire of the blog A Little Claireification created a natural solution housed in mason jars that repels outdoor pests without using any harsh chemicals. And as an added bonus, they actually look quite pretty!

Claire mixes together some water, essential oils, rosemary, lemon, and lime in a mason jar. She tops each one with a tea light, which when lit, releases the scent into the air. Though the scent may be pleasant to us, mosquitoes and other pests don’t like it. So you can hangout in your outdoor spaces without being swarmed by biting mosquitoes.

Remember, never leave one of these jars unattended, and keep them away and out of reach from children and pets. Essential oils can also be harmful to pets, so you should not have pets in close proximity to the jars when lit, even if you are outdoors.
