I have friends who are avid thrifters, and they always seem to score the best finds. If you have the time and patience for thrifting, you have the potential of finding some absolutely amazing deals and valuable items. So, the next time you find yourself wandering down the aisles of a thrift store, keep your eye out for the following six items – they could be worth some pretty big bucks.
1. Solid Wood Furniture
Let’s face it – they just don’t make wood furniture like they used to. Solid wood furniture found at thrift stores can be easily restored, painted, or upcycled, and the prices are generally pretty great.
2. Silver Items
If you find sterling silver flatware, platters, or even jewelry at a thrift store, grab it! Take it home, polish away the tarnish, and you’ve scored yourself an excellent deal.
3. Pyrex
Vintage Pyrex dishware (specifically Pyrex made between the late 1940s and late 1960s) is extremely popular among collectors. As a rule of thumb, the older the Pyrex, the more valuable it tends to be. And pink Pyrex seems to be especially sought-after!
4. Old Mason Jars
Similar to Pyrex, the older the mason jar, the more valuable it is! The next time you’re at a thrift store, check to see if you can find the date the jar was produced. Mason jars from the late 1800s and early 1900s can be worth a pretty penny.
5. Jadeite Dishware
As with Pyrex, authentic Jadeite dishware can be worth some pretty big bucks. There’s a fair amount of knockoff Jadeite floating around – be sure to look for Jadeite produced by Jeannette, McKee, or Fire King (stamped on the bottom).
6. Solid, Gilded Frames
Be on the lookout for gold, gilded frames at thrift and antique stores. Hand-carved, heavy frames can be worth a small fortune, especially if they’re in good condition.
