How To Tell If The Power Went Out While Away On A Vacation

If you go on vacation, how would you know whether or not your power had gone out while you were away? Although this may not seem like a big deal, it certainly is for your food. If you lose power, your refrigerator stops working. And if your food (specifically meat and dairy products) becomes room temperature or warm, you could unknowingly be eating spoiled food if the power goes back on before you return home. That’s where this clever hack comes in!

For this hack, all you have to do is fill a cup with water, then place it in the freezer. Once the water has frozen solid, place a coin on top of it. If you come back and the coin is still on top, then you’ll know that the power didn’t go out and your food is safe to eat. But if you come back and the coin is at the bottom of the cup, you’ll know the power went out long enough for the ice to melt and your food to spoil before coming back on again.

Not only is this hack great for when you’re leaving on vacation, but it’s also helpful in case you ever need to evacuate your home due to fires, floods, or another type of natural disaster. Now you’ll be able to avoid spoiled food and keep you and your family safe!
