How To Make A Homemade Mosquito Trap

source: Instructables

There’s nothing more annoying than trying to enjoy a nice summer evening in your backyard, only to be attacked by pesky mosquitoes. Aside from their horrid whining sounds, mosquitoes produce some of the itchiest insect bites around. Citronella candles only seem to work for a few minutes and in a very short radius. So, how do you get rid of those awful pests?

Well, with a homemade mosquito trap, of course! To make a homemade mosquito trap, you will need:

1 cup of water
1/4 cup of brown sugar
1 gram of yeast
Empty 2-liter bottle

Directions:

Step 1: Cut the plastic bottle in half.

Step 2: Mix the brown sugar with the cup of hot water. Let the solution cool. When cool, pour the solution in the bottom half of the bottle.

Step 3: Add in the yeast. It will create carbon dioxide which will attract the mosquitoes.

Step 4: Place the funnel part upside down into the other half of the bottle, taping them together if you’d like.

Step 5: Wrap the bottle with something black or paint the outside of the bottle black, leaving the top uncovered. Place the bottle outside in a place away from your normal gathering area (mosquitoes are drawn to the color black).

Step 6: Change out the solution every two weeks to continuously control mosquito populations.
