14 Cleaning Tips For A More Spotless, Germ-Free Home
Cleaning isn’t what I would call a fun task. It’s tedious, it’s time consuming, and it can be pretty back-breaking. However, there are a bunch of cleaning tips out there that will make the job far easier and quicker. Here they are!
1. Clean Stainless Steel
There’s no need to buy expensive stainless steel cleaners. Just dab a bit of olive oil on a microfiber cloth and it’ll work just as well on your stainless steel appliances.
2. Descale A Kettle
To clean and descale your kettle, fill it with distilled vinegar, then boil it. You can repeat the process a few times if your kettle is especially scaly.
3. Deodorize Furniture
To deodorize fabric furniture, sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda over it. Let it sit for a few hours, then vacuum it up. The baking soda will absorb and trap unpleasant odors, leaving your furniture smelling fresh.
4. Shine Chrome Faucets
To remove water spots and shine up your chrome faucets, rub them down with a piece of wax paper.
5. Restore Burnt Pans
To remove burnt residue from your pots and pans, sprinkle some baking soda in them, then add in some vinegar. Let the solution sit for about 15 minutes before scrubbing and rinsing.
6. Disinfect Wooden Cutting Boards
To disinfect a wooden cutting board, sprinkle a small amount of coarse salt over the board. Then, use the fleshy side of a halved lemon to work the salt into the board before rinsing well.
7. Clean Your Microwave
To clean and deodorize your microwave, fill a bowl with water and a few lemon slices. Microwave the solution for a few minutes to create lemon-infused steam. When the time’s up, carefully remove the bowl and wipe the microwave down with a damp cloth.
8. Clean The Bathtub
To make a porcelain bathtub shine, sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda in it before pouring vinegar over top. Let it sit for about 15 minutes, then scrub and rinse thoroughly.
9. Clean Nail Polish Spills
If you spill nail polish, immediately pour sugar over top of the spill. The sugar will cause the polish to clump up so that you’ll be able to sweep it all off the floor.
10. Clean Shower Glass
To remove hard water stains from shower glass, make a solution of vinegar, lemon juice, and baking soda. Spray the solution directly on the glass. Let it sit for a few minutes, then use a scrub brush to work the solution into the glass before rinsing.
11. Make Dishware Sparkle
To make your glasses and other dishware really sparkle, place a cup of distilled vinegar in the top rack of your dishwasher. Refrain from running the vinegar through your dishwasher’s rinse aid compartment, as the acidity can damage the rubber seals and gaskets.
12. Unclog A Drain
To unclog a drain, pour coarse salt and baking soda down the drain. Then, pour distilled vinegar down the drain to follow.
13. Remove Wood Stains
To remove heat stains from a wood table, apply some mayonnaise to the area. Apply a piece of plastic wrap over top of the mayonnaise, then let it sit overnight. In the morning, remove the mayonnaise and plastic wrap and wipe with a damp cloth.
14. Dust Blinds
To dust in between blinds, put a sock over your hand and use it in place of a duster.
