6 Effective Tips For Cleaning Dusty Ceiling Fans

When’s the last time you dusted your ceiling fan? This is without a doubt my least favorite chore, and so I end up procrastinating doing it all the time. Fortunately, there are a few tips out there that make cleaning dusty ceiling fans a little bit easier – here they are!

1. Vacuum

The first step in cleaning a ceiling fan is to vacuum the base and blades. If you have a vacuum that has a smaller attachment (or even a special ceiling fan blade attachment), use that to vacuum up large amounts of dust first.

2. Pillowcase Method

I’ve tried this method before, and it truly does help! If you have an old pillowcase, use it to cover the ceiling fan blade before wiping it outwards. This will trap the dust inside the pillowcase instead of letting it fall all over the room in question.

3. Dusting Spray

After you’ve vacuumed and used the pillowcase method, use a clean microfiber cloth and a dusting spray product to help fight future dust buildup.

4. Adjust The Fan

Over time, an accumulation of dust can cause your fan’s screws to become loose. You should check to see if the screws need to be tightened each time you clean the fan.

5. Traditional Clean

Sometimes, a traditional cleaning method is all you need! If you don’t want to follow the above steps, you can always clean your ceiling fan base and blades with a solution of warm, soapy water. Use a damp cloth to wipe clean afterwards.

6. Replacement

If you have an old, dated ceiling fan with lots of little ridges and nooks, replacing it with a more modern version might be your best bet. Most modern ceiling fans have a streamlined design with flat blades, which tend to be much easier to clean.
