5 Mistakes We All Make When Putting On Deodorant

Deodorant is one of those products that we use each and every day (and if you’re not, you should seriously change that!). Putting on deodorant may seem like a super simple process, but there are actually multiple things most of us are doing wrong when it comes to applying this reliable product.

1. You Pile On The Deodorant

Many people tend to think that the more deodorant they put on, the more effective it will be. However, applying two swipes to each underarm is as effective as applying 10, so if you’re slathering on the deodorant every day, you’re only wasting it.

2. You Apply Deodorant When It’s Too Late

Many of us believe that applying deodorant will still do the trick even after we’re already sweating. However, the best time to apply deodorant is shortly after getting out of the shower. When you’re already sweating, rushing to apply deodorant isn’t going to make much of a difference.

3. You Don’t Know The Difference Between Deodorant And Antiperspirant

Deodorant is a product used to mask the smell of underarm odor, while antiperspirant actually stops your armpits from sweating. If you find yourself sweating profusely on a regular basis, consult with your doctor to discuss using a prescription antiperspirant.

4. You’ve Always Used The Same Deodorant

As with many skin products, our bodies can build up an immunity to specific kinds of deodorant over time. Switch up your deodorant brand every now and then to make sure it’s still working how it should be.

5. You Only Put Deodorant On Your Armpits

Deodorant isn’t just effective for masking unpleasant underarm smells. You can apply it to the bottoms of your feet to prevent blisters and bad foot odor, and you can apply it to the inside of your thighs to prevent chafing. Basically, most places you find yourself sweating a lot are fine to apply deodorant.
