5 Curious Effects Certain ‘Tricks’ Have On The Body
Our bodies are complex, somewhat mysterious things. It often feels like we’ll never quite have them figured out. To sum it up, our bodies are extremely interesting, and there are certain “tricks” we can perform on them with even more interesting effects. Here they are!
1. Stop A Toothache
If a toothache is causing you grief before you’re able to see the dentist, try placing an ice cube on the back of your hand. Rub the ice on the webbed area between your thumb and pointer finger. This area houses many nerve pathways between the hands and your face, and the ice will signal to your brain that your tooth doesn’t hurt quite as much.
2. Prevent A Bad Burn
If you accidentally burn yourself, try carefully pressing the pads of your fingers against the area. By trying this method instead of ice, the burned area will reach your regular body temperature more slowly, which will lessen the likelihood of blisters or scarring.
3. Combat Anxiety
If you’re feeling anxious or extremely stressed about something, try blowing on your thumb. Not only does this regulate your breathing, but it also stimulates the vagus nerve, which can help to slow down your heart rate.
4. Tackle A Migraine
To help alleviate the pain of a migraine, use your thumb and pointer finger of one hand to apply pressure to the webbed area between your thumb and pointer finger on your other hand. Apply pressure for one to two minutes on each side, moving your fingers in a circular motion. This is said to improve blood flow, drawing the pain out of your head.
5. No More Scratchy Throat
If you’re dealing with a cough and a scratchy throat, gently rub and pull on your ear. The ears are full of nerves connected to the throat, so stimulating them can help to remove the tickle from your throat.
