6 Things To Avoid Flushing Down The Toilet

Nothing ruins a day quite like a clogged or overflowing toilet. Sometimes, we’re fortunate enough to handle the problem on our own. But when the bathroom floor becomes submerged in toilet water and you need to call in a plumber, things can get pretty pricey. To avoid these unfortunate situations from happening, here are six things you should never flush down the toilet.

1. Hair

Do you ever empty your brush and throw the hair directly into the toilet? Although many people do this, hair can clog the pipes in your toilet just like it clogs the drains in your sink and shower.

2. Baby/Face Wipes

Baby, facial, and makeup removing wipes should never be flushed down the toilet. They have an extremely tough time breaking down, making them a serious culprit for clogged pipes.

3. Paper Towel/Kleenex

Toilet paper = flushable. Paper towel and Kleenex = don’t flush it! These two items don’t break down easily, and flushing even a small amount of them can clog your toilet.

4. Feminine Hygiene Products

You probably don’t need me to tell you this, but tampons and pads will clog a toilet in no time at all. Remember to always safely wrap them up before throwing them in a garbage.

5. Q-Tips

Flushing Q-tips down the toilet may seem completely harmless, but they have a tendency to get stuck in the pipes and create clogs. It’s always safer to throw them out!

6. Cat Litter

Many people flush cat litter down the drain, but when the pieces of litter come into contact with water, they expand and can easily clog your toilet. It’s better to just throw cat litter in the garbage.
