Family Builds Two Tiny Homes Connected By A Sunroom

What could possibly be better than a tiny home? Well, two tiny homes, of course! Architect Brian Crabb of Viva Collectiv designed the “Ohana” with style and functionality in mind. The Ohana is comprised of two tiny homes (each on a 24′ x 8′ trailer) with a central sunroom connecting them. The entire structure is around 600 square feet – a palace compared to many other tiny homes!
“The home was designed for a young family of 4 originally from Hawaii, but living outside of Portland, OR,” explained Crabb to Tree Hugger. “Living in the Pacific Northwest, they found they really missed the tropical climate and all it affords, so their request was to create a home where they could enjoy the ‘outdoors’ year-round. The sunroom was designed as a communal space for the family to enjoy together, while the parents’ and children’s bedrooms are located in separate trailers. This separation allows for some semblance of privacy while still enjoying the fruits of going tiny.”

The trailer on the right is home to the living room and two bedrooms for each of the kids. There is ample storage space and lots of natural light.
The trailer on the left contains the master bedroom, the kitchen, and the bathroom.
How beautiful is that tile work in the shower? And of course, the sunroom in the center provides a beautiful, light-filled space to hangout and relax in.
I’m pretty comfortable in our traditional-sized house, but the Ohana definitely makes a case for transitioning to tiny home living. Great work, Brain and Viva Collectiv!
