I love summer for a whole host of reasons, the main reason being that it’s patio season. Whether I’m posted up on the patio of a restaurant or lounging on my back deck, nothing quite tops the enjoyment of a delicious drink in the warm summer sun. Strawberry daiquiris, mojitos, and a good, dry martini are all favorites of mine. But I’m pretty sure I just stumbled upon the new winner. Watermelon prosecco slushies are about to be all the rage this summer, and I don’t think I’ll be waiting until June to try one.

So, what is a watermelon prosecco slushie? Think frozen watermelon cubes blended with some prosecco, lemon juice, and a little sugar. Top with fresh mint leaves, and voila – there is no more perfect summer drink on the planet. Click here for a great recipe from BBC Good Food.

This drink idea is awesome because you can really customize it to your own drink preferences. Want something a little more potent? Add in a shot of vodka. Or gin. Or even tequila. All would be delicious! This recipe from Floating Kitchen offers a bit of a twist – watermelon limoncello prosecco slushies. That sounds like it would be right up my alley!

Not a huge fan of watermelon? Use frozen strawberries or peaches instead. Want to enjoy this delicious drink sans the alcohol? Leave out the hard liquor and swap out the prosecco for some variation of sparkling water. But definitely don’t skip out on the fresh mint leaves! And a wedge of lime would also hit the spot!

Although this sometimes-chilly spring weather still has me loyal to my sauvignon blanc and cabernet sauvignon, you can bet your bottom dollar I’ll be a whipping up a pitcher of watermelon prosecco slushies on the first warm, sunny day in the near future. Enjoy these sweet and refreshing recipes, and remember to always drink responsibly!
