Couple Turns Their Garage Into A Cozy In-Law Suite
Over the last five years or so, tiny homes have become all the craze. In many cases, tiny living makes total sense — you can streamline your life and own your own space for a fraction of the price as a traditional dwelling. We’ve seen tiny homes made from all sorts of structures and materials, but we’ve never seen a tiny home made from an old garage before!
Portland, Oregon residents Martin Brown and his wife had just welcomed their son when they decided that they needed to accommodate Martin’s mother-in-law. Grandma wanted to be close to her new grandson, so Martin decided to turn their old garage into an in-law suite.
Although this former garage is pretty small, it offers everything that Martin’s mother-in-law needs to live comfortably. Large, glass doors lead into the living room area, which features a pullout couch for sleeping guests. The adjoining kitchen features a two-burner stove, open shelving, and a tall, slim refrigerator.
There’s even a little loft area upstairs where the bedroom, a closet, and a little seating area are located. The exterior of the suite is painted a striking plum color, with a few trees and plants out front to give the home some privacy from the street. The suite even has its own walkway, and a little bistro set for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. Props to Martin and his family for coming up with such a creative, efficient living space for grandma! Click here to see the full video tour of this charming in-law suite.
