It’s easy to look around our homes and make a mental list of all the projects we’d like to see get done. But renovations are pricey, and life is expensive. We can’t always tackle the home improvement projects we want to — unless we get a little crafty! The DIY project we’re about to share with you is a perfect example of how you can make a huge change in your home with a little bit of money and a lot of creativity.

Sherri of the blog Thrifty Artsy Girl was sick and tired of the hollow “slab” doors in her home. You know, those budget-friendly but cheap-looking wooden ones? However, she didn’t want to spend a ton of money on new, solid wood panelled doors. So with a little bit of paint and some decorative trim, Sherri completely transformed them into new, beautiful, and expensive-looking doors (for around $20 each!).

If you’re looking to transform a cheap door or two in your own home, here’s what you’ll need:

Decorative trim
Tape measure
T-square or carpenter’s square
Pencil
Miter box with saw
Liquid nails (or other comparable wood glue)
Tape
Paint
Level

On Sherri’s blog, she gives a full breakdown (with pictures) on how she completed this project. She even took the old, brass door handles and spray painted them to be a much more contemporary black. Sherri’s project proves that even if your budget is small, a little bit of effort and a positive vision can totally transform the spaces within your home.
