The Two Dollar Store Ingredients That Will Make Your Carpet Look New Again
When my husband and I went house hunting, I had a few very specific things on my wish list. One of my biggest requirements was that our future home not have any carpet. It’s not that I hate carpet — it’s just that between kids, pets, and the chaos of daily life, carpet becomes virtually impossible to keep clean. You probably share my opinion, right?
Anyways, we did end up in a house with zero carpet (except for a few area rugs, mind you). However, I have lived in houses with carpet before, and I’m sure I will live in a house with carpet again. If you’re currently living in a house with carpet that’s seen better days, you’re in luck. Because we found a carpet cleaning solution that’s truly revolutionary, not to mention dirt cheap (pun intended!).
According to a test conducted by Instructables, baking soda and distilled vinegar are the only weapons you need to tackle gross, year-old carpet stains. Here’s what you’ll need to do:
Step 1: Create a solution of equal parts water and distilled vinegar and transfer to a spray bottle.
Step 2: Cover the carpet stains in a layer of baking soda.
Step 3: Spray the vinegar/water solution over the baking soda.
Step 4: Let the ingredients soak in for a few hours.
Step 5: Use a brush to scrub the baking soda/vinegar paste loose.
Step 6: Use a vacuum to suck up the baking soda residue.
Step 7: Enjoy your clean, stain-free, and deodorized carpet!
