How To Make Fun And Festive Margarita Cake

Margaritas remind me of three things: summer, vacation, and happiness. That’s why this drink with notes of tequila, lime, and salt is one of my absolutely favorite cocktails. And do you know what else I really like? Dessert. So when I found a recipe for margarita cake, I wanted to find the genius inventor of this recipe and personally thank them. I mean, what could be better than margarita cake?

Leave it to Southern Living to come up with the perfectly Southern margarita cake recipe. “The simple addition of a few tablespoons of lime-flavored gelatin to the cake’s dry ingredients lends flavor and color to the airy cake layers, and store-bought margarita mixer is added to the rich cream cheese frosting to spike it with additional margarita taste,” Southern Living explains.

A small amount of green food coloring is then used to give the cake’s frosting that classic margarita color. Candied lime peels and flaked salt decorate the edge of the cake, making this truly reminiscent of a well-made margarita. I don’t need to know any more – I’m sold!
