Parenting comes along with endless perks. But it also comes along with some dirty jobs, and one of those jobs is dealing with urine-stained mattresses. Thankfully, Katelyn Fagan, a mom of four, figured out a “secret formula” for safely and effectively removing mattress stains and smells.

Katelyn explained that although her one daughter had been potty trained for over a year, she was still wetting the bed frequently at night. Although there was a mattress protector on the bed, it didn’t seem to be working, and her daughter’s mattress had become filled with old, musty-smelling pee stains. Fortunately, she discovered a solution to effectively get rid of them.

To remove urine stains from a mattress, you will need:

  • Empty Spray Bottle
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Baking soda
  • Liquid dish soap
  • Lavender essential oil (optional)
  • Handheld vacuum

Check out what the mattress looked like before Katelyn used the “secret formula” on it.

In the spray bottle, combine 8 ounces of hydrogen peroxide, 3 tablespoons of baking soda, and a drop of liquid dish soap. You can also add in a drop of lavender essential oil if you wish.

Next, give the bottle a little swirl. Spray the solution all over your mattress, specifically focusing on any areas where there are stains.

After an hour (or whenever the mattress has dried), use a vacuum to get rid of the baking soda residue.

Your mattress will now be clean, stain-free, and rid of any unpleasant odors. Just look at the difference between the two photos! Thanks to Katelyn for sharing this awesome hack! I found this awesome guide “Best Mattress in Australia 2021” if you ever need a new mattress.
