How To Get Wax Out Of Carpet
I love candles, so I always have at least one burning at all times. And as much as I love my candles, there have been those inevitable instances when a candle gets knocked down and wax drips all over the floor. If this happens on hardwood or tile floors, it’s generally not a huge cleanup. But if you get wax on a carpet, it’s a whole different story. That’s why today, we’re going to look at some super effective methods for how to get wax out of carpet.
Freeze the Wax
As with most stains, it’s important to tackle the cleanup of wax as soon as possible. The first step in removing wax from carpet is to freeze it – you can do this by placing a bag of ice or even frozen vegetables on top of the wax, then letting it sit for about 10 to 15 minutes. You want to ensure the ice isn’t getting water on the wax, which will make it harder to clean up. You can put a layer of paper towel in between the ice and wax to ensure it isn’t getting wet.
Scrape the Wax
Once the wax is frozen, use a butter knife or other hard, dull object to scrape off the wax as best you can. When scraping, be careful that you’re not damaging the carpet in the process. You won’t be able to get all of the wax scraped up, but get as much as you can. Then, vacuum up the wax.
Heat the Wax
This may sound odd, but your next step in removing wax from carpet is actually to heat it. Place a paper towel or clean, old towel over top of the wax spot. Next, put your iron on a low setting with the steam button off, and run the iron back and forth over the towel slowly. Check the underside of the towel periodically – when you see the wax transfer to the towel, move it over slightly so the clean part of the towel can continue to absorb the wax. Don’t have an iron? A hair dryer can be used instead.
Clean the Carpet
The final step in restoring your carpet to its former glory is to clean the area in question with a carpet cleaner before patting dry and vacuuming. If your wax spill was from a colored candle, you can dab at the spot with some rubbing alcohol to help lift the color.
Although I hope no one has to go through the process of cleaning spilled wax from their carpet, what’s important is knowing how to tackle the situation should it happen. With spilled wax, time is of the essence – so now you’ll confidently know how to remove wax from carpet should it ever happen at your home!
