We all have toilet paper rolls in our houses, (and throw them away or recycle). These are an everyday occurrence. They are little, seemingly insignificant objects that most people don’t recognize they can be repurposed as surprisingly useful items around the home. There are multiple objects that we could think to throw away, but why not think about the other ways of using them that are more fun, environmentally friendly, and even more practical and cost-effective at times?
Take toilet paper rolls for example, they can be useful for organizing cables or cords that we always see getting tangled behind the desk or in a drawer. Just place the cords in the rolls and label them for tidy and organized storage. They could also be useful in the garden simply cut them down and use them for biodegradable seed start. When the seedlings are ready, you can just put the whole roll into the soil and it will break down.
Kids also enjoy projects with them. A little paint, glue, or paper, and they can be great DIY projects, such as binoculars, animals, etc., or even holiday projects. My kids love when they DIY and have made many crafts using toilet paper rolls. Consider these hacks!
1. Wrapping Paper Saver

Wrapping paper becomes difficult to store when it’s been used and is out of its protective packaging. Just slip a toilet paper roll onto the sleeve to keep the paper organized and protected from rips and tears.

3. Cord Organizers

Instead of having tangled cords lying around in a pile, organize them neatly by storing them in toilet paper rolls! You can even decorate them with cute designs.
4. Bird Feeder

If you’d like to make a simple bird feeder at home, start with an empty toilet paper roll. Cover the outside of the roll with a generous layer of peanut butter so the seeds will have something to cling to. Next, sprinkle some birdseed onto a plate or shallow dish and gently roll the peanut-butter-covered tube until it is nicely coated. When the seeds are stuck in place, thread a piece of string through the hollow center of the roll. Tie the ends of the string securely, then hang your homemade feeder from a tree branch or an outdoor hook.
5. Small Gift Boxes

You don’t need to buy gift boxes for jewelry and other small items when you can just make your own using toilet paper rolls. All you have to do is fold down the ends, then add whatever ribbon or other decorations (like stamps) you like.
