How to prepare for a day at the seaside

A summer day at the seaside is a brilliant way to spend some quality time with your family. You can take a swim, build sandcastles and enjoy a picnic in the fresh sea air. Of course, as with any family day out, a little preparation can go a long way in making sure your trip runs as smoothly as possible.
Make sure you have prepared your beach bag and booked your train ticket to Brighton beachfront.
Here are a few things you should bring for a day at the seaside.
A picnic to remember
It’s always best to pack a picnic for the day over buying overpriced seaside food. Make sure to pack lots of snacks for the kids – or any hangry adults. Packets of crisps, dried fruit, breadsticks and other dry snacks are perfect for hot sunny days. If you fancy something fresher, use a cool bag to keep your watermelon, dips and sandwiches in good condition. No one wants to munch on warm soggy fruit…
Sun cream
You need to pack sun cream to minimise burning and sun-damaged skin. Always pack waterproof sun cream for when the kids are running in and out of the sea. Try to sun cream up before arriving at the beach to avoid rubbing sandy sunscreen all over your little ones. Ouch!
Water
Bring a few reusable bottles of cold water and keep the backup bottles in the shade of the car. It’s worth bringing a small beach tent or umbrella to keep the sun off you at midday. Remember to encourage everyone to drink plenty of water and sit in the shade if it’s super-hot. Sunstroke isn’t fun!
Towels
To avoid arguments, pack towels in different colours and patterns so everyone can identify their beach towel. Invest in a lightweight towel to keep in your handbag in case one goes missing or gets too sandy.
Rubbish bag
Always bring a bag for the rubbish so you can clear up after yourselves at the end of the day. Littered beaches are detrimental to the environment and can ruin someone else’s day at the beach. Take a black bin back to store all of your wrappers, food rubbish and ice lolly sticks.
Cash
If you fancy an ice cream or fish and chips, you will probably need cash. While most places have card machines, it’s always good to be prepared with a little cash. You can surprise the little ones with a sweet treat and win extra parent points.
Enjoy your day at the beach – and always stay prepared!
