I remember when back in the ’90s, I bought my very first pair of Converse sneakers. They were snow-white, super trendy, and I couldn’t have been more excited. It was a short while later that I was able to fully grasp how white sneakers may not have been the most practical purchase. And so, I slowly let them become weathered and dirty until they were definitely not stylish anymore.

I also remember how pleasantly surprised I was when Converse came back in style a few years ago. It seems like everywhere I go, someone is wearing a pair. Sarah Tracey is a student who also hopped on board the Converse train. However, unlike the rest of us, she managed to come up with a genius way of getting her Converse to look sparkling white again.
In a Twitter post that has since gone viral, Sarah showed a before-and-after of her white Converse. She explained that she started by rinsing the shoes. She then mixed together one part baking soda to one-and-a-quarter parts laundry detergent. She used an old toothbrush to scrub the solution into the sneakers before letting them sit for a bit.
Next, she rinsed them again before putting them in the washing machine on a cold water rinse cycle. She then let them air dry, and was left with white sneakers that look brand spankin’ new! If you have a pair of white sneakers in need of some love, why not try out this simple yet genius hack? Thanks for sharing, Sarah!
