No matter how often you wash them or how diligently you dry them, all towels will get that permanently damp, mildew smell over time. Not only is this smell extremely unpleasant, but it also signifies that your towels are a breeding ground for bacteria. Gross! When your towels get to this point, laundry detergent won’t cut it. But these two household products will.

You already know that both distilled vinegar and baking soda are excellent cleaning products. They disinfect and deodorize, and they’ll do the exact same for your towels! So when your towels start to become smelly, don’t throw them out or make them into rags. Just try this simple hack instead.

Place your towels in the washing machine and fill with just hot water, no detergent. Next, add one to one and a half cups of vinegar into the machine and wash on a regular cycle. When the cycle is complete, fill the machine with hot water again, then add in half a cup of baking soda. Wash the towels again on a regular cycle.

When the second cycle is complete, throw your towels in the dryer and you’re all done! This is the easiest, cheapest, and most effective way of making unpleasant-smelling towels feel, look, and smell clean again.
