How To Keep Pumpkins Fresh For Longer

Halloween is one of my favorite times of year. Between the decorations, costumes, and crisp fall air, what’s not to love about Halloween?! My family and I always head to our local pumpkin patch to pick an assortment of pumpkins we’ll carve before Halloween night. But I tend to have a hard time keeping our pumpkins looking nice once we’ve carved them.

Thankfully, one mom came up with an awesome solution for keeping her pumpkins fresh. In a Facebook , Adrianna Kofoed explained that after you carve and scoop out your pumpkin, you can dunk it in a large container of bleach and water (about one teaspoon of bleach to one gallon of water). Then, let the pumpkin sit submerged for 10 to 15 minutes. She explained that the bleach helps kill bacteria and helps your pumpkin stay fresh for longer.

Once the pumpkin is completely dry (drain it upside down), Adrianna suggests adding two tablespoons of vinegar and one teaspoon of lemon juice to a quart of water. All you have to do is lightly brush the solution onto the pumpkin to keep it looking fresh for weeks.

If you’re like me and are always looking for ways to step up your Halloween game, I’m sure you’ll appreciate this helpful hack. Thanks for sharing this great tip, Adrianna!
