There are certain items that everyone should have in their pantry at all times. When it comes to cooking and baking, there are a number of basics that are found in essentially every recipe, or can easily be added to one for a quick substitute. Here they are, so go ahead and stock up!

1. Olive Oil

Olive oil is one ingredient that has a whole lot of uses. Between roasting veggies, salad dressings, and even baking, olive oil is a must. Extra-virgin olive oil is the healthiest variety, so aim to have this type in your pantry.

2. Flour

Flour can be used to bread meats, thicken sauces, and is featured in essentially every baked goods recipe. It stays fresh for quite a long time, and is very inexpensive.

3. Honey

Many people use honey as a natural sweetener for tea, coffee, and in baked goods. It’s also great for soothing a sore throat, and of course, served on toast! Every pantry should include a container of honey.

4. Dried/Canned Beans

When cooked, beans are one of those things that you can throw into soups, salads, chili, and more for a quick serving of protein. Plus, they’re super inexpensive!

5. Salt And Pepper

Meats, salads, vegetables, pasta dishes, eggs — salt and pepper is one combination used in practically every dish. Freshly ground pepper and Himalayan rock salt tend to be the best, most flavorful varieties.

6. Brown Rice

Brown rice is a high-fiber carb that can be used to supplement all sorts of meals. It keeps for an extremely long time, and it’s quite inexpensive.
