I often fantasize about what life would be like if we were debt-free. Of course, the biggest of our debts takes the shape of a mortgage, and I can’t imagine the financial freedom we’d experience if we didn’t have one. And this is exactly why Jaimie and Dave decided to build a rather nontraditional home out of two shipping containers – which allowed them to be both debt and mortgage-free as they built the home for just $80,000.

The British Columbia-based couple built this stunning modern home out of a 20-foot shipping container and a 40-foot shipping container. The home is 406 square feet, and includes an upper deck for enjoying the great outdoors. The home is nestled on a property the couple bought prior to starting construction.

The interior of the home features gorgeous wood floors and a lounge area complete with a fireplace.

The kitchen feels very big for a small house, and even includes all full-size appliances. The island is spacious, and six can comfortably eat around it.

Past the kitchen is a spacious bathroom which offers lots of storage space. There’s also an attached closet/pantry for even more storage space.

Up a spiral staircase is the couple’s bedroom which features beautiful views of the surrounding forest. There’s also a small sitting area and a TV, which the couple generally only watches while lying in bed.

Completing this unique home is an exterior deck off the bedroom where the couple loves to sit and drink coffee in the morning, and enjoy dinners on in the evening. I don’t blame them – the views are incredible!

Jaimie and Dave are really enjoying their little slice of heaven, and the financial freedom that this home allows them to experience. Click here to check out the full video tour of their home. Congrats to the hardworking couple on this amazing completed project!
