Retirement is a major milestone in life. After years of hard work and dedication, the thought of finally being able to relax and enjoy the fruits of your labor is nothing short of exhilarating. For a group of close friends who have known each other for an impressive 30 years, retirement meant something even more special. They decided to embark on this new chapter together and create their very own “tiny town” where they could enjoy their retirement years in each other’s company.

The journey to their perfect retirement setup was filled with brainstorming sessions and exciting ideas. From buying RVs to traveling together, they explored various options until they stumbled upon the ingenious concept of tiny houses. These small, sustainable homes seemed like the ideal solution for their shared retirement dreams.

To turn their vision into a reality, the group enlisted the help of architect Matt Garcia, who eagerly agreed to assist them. The first task was to find a suitable plot of land, and after some searching, they discovered a beautiful 10-acre property near the serene Llano River. With the land secured, they could move on to the thrilling part of designing and constructing their dream retirement homes.

Matt had the delightful task of designing five unique buildings, each capable of comfortably accommodating a queen bed, a loveseat, and a full bathroom. Additionally, they planned a communal space where everyone could gather and spend time together. This shared area featured a kitchen, laundry facilities, a flat-screen TV, and a large table for communal meals and special celebrations.

While their primary goal was to have retirement homes, the friends also shared a deep commitment to the environment. Some of them opted to keep their city homes and utilize the tiny houses as peaceful retreats. This clever arrangement led them to a brilliant idea—they could rent out the vacant tiny homes on Airbnb, generating additional income while benefiting others.

Embracing their newfound entrepreneurial spirit, the group aptly named their small community “The Llano Exit Strategy” and proudly displayed the name on their front gate. Their retirement dreams had come true, and they were more than satisfied with the way things had unfolded.

Retirement is undoubtedly a time to cherish, and what better way to embrace this new phase than with your closest friends in a place that exudes tranquility and joy? The friends of “The Llano Exit Strategy” firmly believe that a collective effort is crucial in ensuring the smooth running of their community. Jodi Zipp, one of the retirees, emphasizes the importance of open and honest communication as the key to making their dreams a reality. According to her, successfully navigating everyone’s ideas and aspirations for the project has been an amazing experience and a perfect way to stay connected.
