Have you ever felt bogged down by expensive rent or a hard-to-manage mortgage? Pair either of these things with any amount of debt and your financial situation is probably less than ideal. 32-year-old Eileah Ohning was battling both of those things. So, she decided to make the change of a lifetime and ditch pricey housing costs to live full-time in a van.

Eileah is a photography producer based in Columbus, Ohio. She didn’t have the capital for a down payment on a home, especially when combined with the $42,000 she owed in student debt. After crunching some numbers, Eileah discovered she could pay off her student debt in just one year by converting to van living. And that’s exactly what she did!

Eileah’s van measures just 13′ 2″ long, 5′ 8″ wide, and 6′ 2″ high. Inside her van is a memory foam mattress where she sleeps, multiple storage compartments, a desk, and a camping stove. She has plans to add a shower, toilet, and fridge in the future. Eileah showers and gets ready at her gym, and always parks within close proximity to her work in order to avoid a lengthy morning commute.

The van started out as being just Eileah’s home, but now, her boyfriend, his cat, and her dog all call the van home! Eileah revealed that after experiencing the minimalism and mobility of living in a van, she doesn’t think she’ll ever go back to living in a traditional house.
