An Easy, Mess-Free Way To Frost A Cake

I’ll be the first to admit that I am no baker. I can cook, but I’ve always found baking to be so technical. That’s why when I attempt baking a cake once a year, I dread the step that involves frosting it. My cakes always end up looking like a giant, lumpy disaster. Thankfully, PureWow discovered a way to frost a cake that is easy, mess-free, and will still make your cake look awesome.

All you have to do is remove your baked cake from the pan and set it on a wire cooling rack or other hard, flat surface. Next, grab a can of frosting (and yes, it can absolutely be the pre-made, store-bought kind). Place the icing container in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time until it’s pourable.

Once it’s reached a pourable consistency, you can add some food coloring to vanilla or cream-colored frosting if you’d like. Give it a good stir, then simply pour the icing straight from the container onto the awaiting cake. Pour on enough of the icing that it drips down and coats the sides of the cake, too. Once the icing sets a little, it will look just like a professionally frosted cake!
