Before trying any eye exercises, it’s a good idea to firstly consult with your optometrist. You don’t want to be putting unnecessary strain on your eyes if you have a preexisting vision problem. Once you’ve gotten the go-ahead, here are some eye exercises to try out.

1. Up And Down

Look upwards and focus on whatever is there. Then, look down and focus on what you see. Look up and down five times, and repeat this exercise three times.

2. Left And Right

Look to the left and focus on what’s there. Look to the right and focus on what’s there. Look left and right five times, and repeat this exercise three times.

3. The Figure 8

This exercise can help control the physical movement of your eyes and make vision clearer. Imagine a giant figure 8 on the floor about 10 feet in front of you. Slowly trace the figure 8 with your eyes. Trace it one way for a few minutes, then trace it the other way for a few minutes. Practice with both an upright and sideways figure 8.

4. Near And Far Focus

  1. Sit on a chair or stand in front of a blank wall and focus on a nearby object, e.g. a pencil. It should be about 10 inches (20-30 cm) away from your eyes.
  2. Focus on the object.
  3. Look at something distant. Focus on that distant object that is 5-10 feet away and try to see it in detail.
  4. Look at the nearby object again.
  5. Change this focus five times. Repeat this exercise three times.
