Genius Raised Plant Bed Makes Gardening Wheelchair Accessible

My grandmother was always an avid gardener her whole life. So when she reached her late 70s and began struggling with getting up and down from the ground where she tended to her garden beds, she ultimately began gardening less and less. Fortunately, there is now a genius solution to traditional gardening that’s perfect for seniors and people in wheelchairs.

TerraForm came up with an extremely clever raised garden bed that a wheelchair can conveniently wheel right under. People in wheelchairs can simply wheel right up to the bed, tuck themselves slightly underneath the top of the garden bed, and easily tend to their plants.

The beds are made from recycled polyethylene and were designed for people who are often marginalized by their health issues. Not only are these beds perfect for people in wheelchairs, but they’re also perfect for seniors – they can sit on a low stool or chair under the bed, or can even sit on their walker.

TerraForm is currently testing their beds in France, and have plans to roll out beds on a more global basis if the community responds positively to the idea – and how couldn’t they?!
