Whether you’re an adult or a child, getting a splinter sucks. It’s painful, and trying to remove it can be a huge process. If you’re a parent to young children, then you’re likely familiar with the kicking and screaming that comes along with attempting to remove splinters. However, one mom came up with an absolutely brilliant hack for removing splinters that all parents should know about.

Claire Bullen-Jones is a mom from the UK who shared her genius splinter removal method via a Facebook post. “Kids got a splinter? Grab the Calpol box and take out the syringe that comes with it!” she wrote. In case you’re wondering, Calpol is the British equivalent of infant Tylenol or ibuprofen.

“Put the small hole at the bottom of the syringe as best you can over the splinter,” Claire explained. “Once you know you’re above it, make sure the syringe is touching the skin, and pull! Make sure there’s no gaps otherwise you won’t get it! The syringe will more than likely pull it out in the first go!”

“Pain free, no tugging and pulling, and no little ones upset or scared at getting it out!” she continued. “Don’t pull slowly! You need to pull rather quickly! If it’s a stubborn splinter, just do this a couple of times! Saves so much time, and well worth seeing the kids smile at the end of it rather than red faces and tears! Because the plastic is clear, you can check what’s been taken out of the skin!”

Well, there you have it! Instead of digging at your child’s skin with tweezers while they scream and flail their limbs, you can just suction the splinter out instead!
