How to Make Strawberries Last Longer
Summertime produce is something we look forward to each and every year. Strawberries, asparagus, and corn? Yes, please! Well, what if someone presented you with a food hack to make your precious produce last way longer than usual? I’ll bet you’d jump at the chance.
Strawberries are undoubtedly delicious (not to mention perfect for smoothies, pies, and more!), but it feels like the second we get them into our fridge, they get all soft and rotten. Strawberries seem to be one of those temperamental fruits that require you to eat them right away.
But since life is busy and it’s not realistic to eat food the second it lands in your fridge, we’ve got to get a little creative. Fortunately, Hip2Save has revealed an excellent hack to keep your strawberries fresh for days (and maybe even a week or two) after you bring them home from the grocery store.
And the best part? All you need for this hack is some water, white vinegar, a large bowl, and a salad spinner or colander.
Step 1: Combine 1 part white vinegar to 5 parts water in a large bowl.
Step 2: Soak your strawberries in the bowl for a few minutes. The vinegar will remove any bacteria and mold spores, which is usually what causes strawberries to go bad so quickly.
Step 3: Place the strawberries into the salad spinner or colander on top of a few paper towels. Carefully dry them with a paper towel or let them air dry.
Step 4: Once dry, place the strawberries in the fridge on top of a paper towel.
And voila! There you have it. And to answer the question on all of your minds: No, the strawberries will not taste like vinegar after.
