I won’t lie – I’ve never been a great flier. I’ve always been a little nervous of traveling by plane, and I tend to work myself up quite a bit before I even get on one. Then, there’s the stress of trying to navigate a massive airport and ensuring you’ll make your flight on time. If you’re planning a trip in the near future, check out these 14 airport and plane hacks that will make traveling by air a whole lot easier.

1. Disinfecting Wipes

It may sound silly, but you should always bring a small package of disinfecting wipes on a plane. Planes are notorious for carrying a ton of germs and bacteria, which is why so many people get sick after flying. Before taking your seat, be sure to wipe down your tray table, armrests, and any other hard surfaces.

2. Avoid Carbonated Drinks

Even people with iron stomachs can experience discomfort while flying if they’ve drank carbonated beverages. With the different pressures and altitudes involved with flying, you don’t need gas bubbles floating around in your stomach.

3. Take A Photo Of Your Parking Spot

After a long flight, the last thing you want to do is search and search for your vehicle in the airport’s huge parking lots. While parking, be sure to take a photo of your vehicle and the section it’s parked in. That way, you’ll have an easy reference when you land.

4. Download The TSA App

If you download the MyTSA app to your smartphone, you’ll be able to find out how long security lines and wait times are before heading to the airport.

5. Choose The Wing Seat

If you’re someone who gets motion sick easily and hates turbulence, choose a wing seat when booking your flight. Since wing seats are the most balanced sections of the plane, the turbulence won’t be quite as bad.

6. Airflow

We all know that airflow on planes is pretty limited. To get the freshest, coolest air on the plane, try to choose a seat near the front.

7. Hit The Lounge

If you’re willing to spend a bit of extra money, business and executive lounges in the airport are a great place to relax before your flight. They’re quiet, low-key, and offer drinks and food.

8. Stay Hydrated

To keep your energy levels up and decrease bloating while sitting on a long flight, ensure you’re staying hydrated! It’s all too easy to become dehydrated while traveling, which can lead to a seriously crappy start to your trip.

9. Choose Left

This is kind of an interesting tip. When faced with which line to go in, always choose left. Since the majority of people are right-handed and will go in the direction of their dominant hand, lines on the left tend to be shorter.

10. Use TSA Pre-Check

Speaking of lines, if you want to avoid them altogether, use TSA Pre-Check. By checking in before you get to the airport, you’ll be able to go in fast-tracked lines.

11. Use Spotify Premium

If you don’t have music downloaded to your phone, you won’t be able to listen to it while in flight when you don’t have access to wi-fi. Thankfully, Spotify Premium allows you to listen to music without wi-fi or cell service.

12. Avoid Alcohol

Although it may be tempting to start off your trip with an in-flight alcoholic beverage, drinking while traveling can dehydrate you and make you extremely groggy. You definitely don’t want to get to your destination feeling that way!

13. Put Down Your Headphones

If you’re sitting near your gate before your flight, you might want to take your headphones out. If you’re listening to something, you may not hear important information about your flight.

Apparently, the best time to buy plane tickets is Tuesday afternoons around 3 pm. This is when airlines start to put out sale tickets, and other airlines lower their prices to compete as a result.
